There is so much to see and so little time. The year 2013 has run out. Are you one of those who visited one or more of the top most popular places to visit this year? Or do you have some of these on your New Year’s Resolution travel list for 2014? Here are some top contenders for your next bucket list.
Niagara Falls, New York
Niagara Falls is located between two cities and two countries: Niagara Falls Ontario, and Niagara Falls New York. The waterfalls that make up Niagara are Bridal Veil Falls, American Falls and Horseshoe Falls. Niagara Falls has over 10 million visitors every year, summer through winter. One million gallons of water rush every two seconds from four of the Great Lakes funneled into a fifth river at Niagara Falls, forming this amazing natural wonder.
Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona
The Grand Canyon is a wonderful year-round vacation destination. It is a chasm 277 miles long and stretching to 18 miles wide, formed by erosion from the Colorado River flowing west through the canyon. It took 3-6 million years to form this spectacular landmark. There are five ecosystems that come together here, including about 70 species of mammals, 250 species of birds, and 25 types of reptiles. What a great place to observe the wonders of nature!
Times Square, New York
Times Square had been nicknamed “The Crossroads of the World,” “The Great White Way,” and “The Tenderloin” because it was considered the most desirable location in Manhattan during the 1920's. New York City pushed to clean up Times Square in the 1990s under the Mayor Rudolph Giuliani. Some people referred to the change as the “Disneyfication” of that landmark square. On New Year's Eve, close to a million people congregate to celebrate the dropping of the ball which signals the end of one year and the beginning of the next.
Other top destinations on this list include:
• Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, Lake Buena Vista, FL
• Las Vegas, Nevada
• Empire State Building, New York
• National Mall, Washington DC
• Sears Tower, Chicago
• Fisherman’s Wharf/Golden Gate National Recreation Area, San Francisco, CA
