Is your alma mater on the list of the Top 10 Pet-Friendliest Colleges in the nation? You'll be surprised at the colleges that made the cut, and the ones that didn't.
The editors at Petside.com analyzed factors such as types of pets permitted in university housing (allowing dogs and cats was preferred), the type of housing and number of units included. School size, the number of years the school has allowed pets, and any required deposits or weight/breed restrictions were also considered.
"At Petside, we know how much the companionship of a pet can benefit a college student, particularly in the form of stress-relief and as a remedy for homesickness," said Joshua Fried, Director, Petside.com. "We are pleased to know that so many of America's colleges are welcoming responsible students and their pets."
Which colleges came out on top?
1. Eckerd College in St. Petersburg Florida ranks #1. It offers four pet-friendly, air-conditioned dorm "clusters." Students are allowed to keep dogs and cats – as long as they weigh less than 40 pounds – as well as snakes and fish.
2. Stephens College (Columbia, Missouri)
Has a designated "pet dorm,” which allows dogs, cats, hamsters and guinea pigs.
3. Washington & Jefferson College (Washington, Pennsylvania)
In the "Pet House" dorm, cats and dogs weighing less than 40 pounds, small birds, hamsters, gerbils, guinea pigs, turtles and fish are allowed and other animals may be permitted on a case-by-case basis.
4. Principa College (Elsah, Illinois)
Seven dorms and university apartments allow pets. Students may bring dogs, cats, rabbits, caged animals, and aquatic pets. Some of the dorms even allow up to two un-caged pets.

7. University of Idaho (Moscow, Idaho)
Cats and birds are permitted in all of the university's four apartment-style housing buildings. Fish are allowed in all dorms. A maximum of two cats and/or birds are allowed in one residence. Pets must be considered appropriately suited to apartment living and must not be aggressive or nervous.
8. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Cambridge, Massachusetts)
MIT allows cats in four of the university dormitories as long as the owner has the written consent of their roommates. The cats must also be approved by the dorm's "Pet Chair."

I think that is such a neat idea to let college kids take their pets to college. It helps them not to be so home sick because they will have their favorite pet to keep them company. Check out this web site.www.yourpetrabbit.com
