Betty White, television's former Golden Girl, might be what either one of the U.S. political parties may be looking for when one consideres ‘trust’ as a key characteristic for a politician, as politicians are often thought to say anything the public wants to hear just to get elected.
America trusts Betty White!
Reuters/Iposos conducted a poll which shows that Betty White is the most-trusted of all celebrities. She received a commanding public approval with an astounding 86% favorable opinion by those polled.
Other favorites who came up strong, but not as strong as White, were Clint Eastwood, Sandra Bullock, and Denzel Washington.
The serious side of the polling is for advertisers. The survey shows which ‘stars’ advertisers would have good results with if they were to hire them to endorse their products. Likewise, from a political point of view, this survey could also show which celebrities’ political endorsements could help a candidate - or make a good candidate. After all, if White chose to transfer from show biz to politics, she wouldn't be the first. Is the thought of former-actor-turned-President Ronald Reagan running through your mind?
Perhaps Betty White will be hearing from the political camps soon? Hopefully not. Look at the many formerly ‘liked’ celebrities the public has severely criticized due to their political-links later in life: Jane Fonda, Barbara Streisand, Oprah Winfrey, and the list goes on and on.
As far as those receiving a negative scoring in the Reuters’ poll were Charlie Sheen and Paris Hilton.
All in all, 44% of those polled said they would be more likely to do business with a company endorsed by Betty White, while 54% said they would trust a company less if it were endorsed by Sheen and Hilton.
