Check out part 1 here.
Continuing on with our list, here's part 2:
5. Of Verona (July 9 – Bardot) – I recognized the talent of Mandi Perkins many years ago when she was a solo singer songwriter, and have been so proud to see her find her place. Together with Dillon Pace and Jeff Sojka, a new creation emerged which is taking the industry by storm. I expect great things from this band in 2013.
4. The Jason Adamo Band (May 25 – WitZend) – With a sound reminiscent of Keith Urban meets Bruce Springsteen meets The Doobie Brothers, the JAB is simply amazing. See review here.
3. Joe Taylor (June 29 – The Mint) – Another great artist introduced to me by Jen Lyneis, Taylor put on a hell of a show. His music was invigorating and he kept the audience engaged throughout. His music is totally Contagious.
2. David and Devine (August 15, 22, 29, September 5; December 1 – Hotel Café) – This band found its mark in 2012 with a tighter sound and new management, and enjoyed some success on jazz radio with the release of Leave the Light On. The climactic residency show on September 5 included saxophone great Mindy Abair. Expect great things in 2013.
1. Keaton Simons (March 9 – Jungle Room; July 16 – Hotel Café; August 4 – Troubadour; November 21 – WitZend) – This artist really came into his own in 2012. From the Jungle Room show which became his first live album Nowhere to Hide, Simons proved he has arrived. His amazing final LA show at WitZend including such musical greats as Stephen Bishop, Michael Dearden (Michael Jackson’s band leader), Leland Sklar, Lenny Castro and Robin DiMaggio. Watch for more greatness in 2013.
