Do you know what I love about the woods? The nothingness. The still, quite peacefulness that can't be experienced anywhere else. Nothing is happening in the woods.. Look at the tree tops, they will be blowing and whipping around when the wind is blowing strong, the trees block most of the gale but on the floor the most you feel is a soft breeze. Tranquility, peacefulness, serenity.
The world is so chaotic, so full of glaring neon and buzzing sounds of life all around us with electronic doo-dads that break our concentration and steal our attention and serenity. How are we supposed to hear the small still voice of the Lord when ear-buds are blasting inside our heads and any productive thought is impossible.
Blessed are the peacemakers, says Jesus Christ, (Matthew 5:9). How can we bring peace to the world, when we ourselves have no peace. We say, “I have salvation”, “I have the peace of Christ”. Where is this peace? Point it out. It is true that because of salvation we are bestowed a supernatural peace and calm about our future and the hereafter. We know that Jesus and God look over us, carry us, and comfort us. But when it comes to bringing peace to the world, we are lacking.
These are troublesome times, no doubt. To say that bringing peace to the world is easy would be, well, lying. But what if we were to take the essence that is the still quietness of the natural forest and instill it deep into our souls, so that we exude peace.
There are many ways to find peace in your life, even in the busiest of schedules. Take 5 minutes a day and turn everything off and find a place to hide. At night is the best time; right before bed. Hide yourself in the closet, in the dark, and listen. Listen to the absoluteness of silence. Wrap yourself in the stillness of the quietness. Put something over your ears if there is background noise. In the shower is a good time to get some quite time in. Let the sound of the water drown out everything else, and focus on the stillness of everything.
