And last but not least, the best thing about the Maryland Deathfest is that it created a gigantic ripple in a city that is decidedly non-metal by nature. Very few bands of note have ever come out of Baltimore, and thudding hip-hop predominates in virtually every quarter of the city. This didn't stop promoters Ryan Taylor and Evan Harting from running with their vision and making this an event that drew in black-shirted mavens from as far away as Australia. Fans can only hope that they will endeavor to top themselves next year. Who knows what surprises and metal madness it will bring?
