Top 10 best comic book villains (Part 2)

Read Part 1

Boy, it's been a rough couple of weeks.  I wanted to get back into my Sailor Moon feature today, but considering all the bad that's happened recently, going back to talking about comic villains seemed more appropriate.  Anyway, on with the list:

7. Enerjak (Knuckles)

Though it may surprise you, when I was growing up one of the highlights of my month would be going to Comic’s Town off Antelope (when they were still open) and picking up the latest issue of “Sonic The Hedgehog.”  An Archie Comics title may seem like an odd place to get a terrifying villain, but that’s just what Enerjak was: A terrifying villain that seemed impossible to beat.  He mainly showed up in the spin-off series “Knuckles The Echidna,” and when he was the villain of the month there was no messing around: You needed to have a plan of attack or this guy would KILL you!

Actually, I think he DID manage to kill Knuckles at one point!  He at least killed several of his friends.  Enerjak was so threatening that Archie Comics had to tone him down because he was actually SCARING kids!  Well, of course, that’s the point, but in an Archie comic that won’t fly unless it’s a FUN scaring villain!  Now he’s been demoted to a floating head in a tube, going by his birth name Dimitri.  Sort of sad to see such a great villain be downgraded like that, but that’s what happens when you submit by the outdated Comics Code of Authority.

6. The Hooded One (Bone)

Though it’s been argued that the mysterious Lord of the Locusts is really the main antagonist of “Bone,” I would argue that The Hooded One simply has more meat to her.  Shrouded in mystery when the series opens, you slowly find out more and more about her as the series goes on.  Not only does she have some revolutionary ties with main characters, but she wields an army of rat creatures and a curved blade almost as big as the main character himself.  Scary, complex, and evil, this is also the only female antagonist on the list.  How’s that for going head to head with the boys?

5. Shishio Makoto (Rurouni Kenshin)

I would argue that this is probably the least complicated antagonist on the list, but that doesn’t matter too much: Shishio Makoto is one evil, evil dude.  He’s one of those supervillains that seems impossible to beat.  The Kyoto Arc leads up to the battle between him and protagonist Rurouni Kenshin.  The final result does not disappoint, so I’m willing to overlook the less complicated nature behind him.

Stay tuned for part 3...
