Have you ever wondered about the potential of a toothpick? Well, that little piece of wood can do more than clear out left overs from hard to reach places, or embarrass you as your grandpa digs in public. Toothpicks can be made into creative works of art, as proof by 'Toothpick Sculptures,' a new exhibit by Steven J. Backman.
The things Steven J. Backman can do with one or 100's of toothpicks will surprise you. Backman is a man of extreme patience and has been creating one-of-a-kind toothpick sculptures for more than 30 years. Backman's sculptures range from abstract art to recreations of well known landmarks. Some created with a single toothpick! Take a look at the slideshow below for a few examples including two sculptures of the Golden Gate Bridge and a San Francisco Cable Car.
Steven J. Backman's art will be on display in the lobby of Foundry Square IV in San Francisco through the end of September. Foundry Square IV is located at 500 Howard Street (nearest cross street is 1st Street.). The lobby is open Monday through Friday, 7a- 7p.
