Toothpaste alert: Authorities warn airlines of possible toothpaste bombs

A toothpaste alert has been issued to airlines flying into Russia during the 2014 Winter Olympics. On Feb. 5, The Inquisitr reported that authorities have put out a warning about potential terrorists using toothpaste or cosmetic tubes to make bombs. Although Russian transportation officials have already banned "carry-on" liquids, this new threat is very real -- and very frightening.

"It's real. It’s real and we got very good information. It’s based on a credible source. We're taking it seriously so are other countries taking it very seriously," said an unnamed government official. With security concerns hitting a fever pitch just two days before Opening Ceremonies, no one can be too careful.

The toothpaste alert is just one of many concerns that authorities have. While the U.S. has tightened up its own security, many officials feel as though Sochi isn't going to be completely protected during the next couple of weeks. With several terror attacks happening around the Russian city of Sochi, security is undoubtedly a concern.

According to CNN, 57% of people believe that there will be a terror attack at the Olympics this month. With thousands of athletes and news correspondents (and not to mention the thousands of spectators and supporters) already in Russia for the games, an act of terror would cause chaos -- something that terrorists feed off of.

The toothpaste alert might be the least of the problems in Russia right now. Despite reassurance from the Russian government, many people are concerned for the safety of those in Sochi this week and beyond. "There are a number of specific threats of varying degrees of credibility that we're tracking and we're working very closely with the Russians and with other partners to monitor any threats we see and to disrupt those," said Matthew Olsen, director of the National Counterterrorism (sic) Center.

Would you feel safe in Sochi? Do you think a terrorist attack at the 2014 Winter Olympics is feasible? Will it happen?
