Their music can be described in many ways; the word "mysterious" comes to mind for many--for fans, such as myself, it is simply a matter of the words: "moving and engulfing". But behind the curtain, there are a group of guys who are just plugging in and making music--their own brand of sound which is only enhanced in their live shows.
This band is a must see and this particular fan is a little upset that Ticketmaster decided to only alert me to this show this morning, but that is another article, possibly. Fans will relate to this because this band tends to 'go underground' for periods of time, only to emerge via side projects, such as Mr. Keenan's successful venture with 'A Perfect Circle' (who is also a definite show to catch when in town). I am letting go of missing this opportunity very slowly.
If you are familiar with the band's music and history it is not all that 'elusive'; however, if you are not part of the Tool 'cult', if you will...allow me to elaborate some...
Tool is a rock band from Los Angeles, California, formed in 1990. The group's cast has included drummer Danny Carey, guitarist Adam Jones, and of course, vocalist and master lyricist Maynard James Keenan. Justin Chancellor has been the band's bassist since 1995 replacing their original bassist Paul D'Amour. Surprisingly to some, but not to their fans, Tool has won three Grammy Awards for their ever-popular brand of immediately recognizable brand of sound.
Tool emerged with a heavy metal sound on their first studio album 'Undertow' (1993), and later became a dominant act in the alternative metal movement with the release of their second effort, 'Ænima' (1996). Their efforts to unify musical experimentation, visual arts, and a message of personal evolution continued with 'Lateralus' (2001). Their most recent effort '10,000 Days' (2006), widened the bands fan base and global recognition as a musical force to be reckoned with.
For years there was very little information available about the members of the band. The music Tool creates leaves in its wake a long list of unanswered (yet answerable) questions.
But over the years, exposure became less about giving answers to people who weren't willing to do a little work on their own, and more about being a starting point for people on their quests for personal enlightenment. http://toolshed.down.net/bio/maynardbio.php
