Police say Jasmine Lewis gave a false name and birthday when she was arrested for shoplifting. The false name sent Lewis, who was actually only 13 years-old, to Dallas County jail for 13 days.
It was not until she was released on probation that the police discovered that she was not actually 17.
In the story from Dallas News, the arresting officer, Senior Cpl. Roberto Garcia, who arrested Jasmine on July 10 said she did initially tell him that she was underage.
Then she gave the 34-year police veteran a name and date of birth that would make her an adult.
