It seems the image of Barbie has people debating exactly how the traditional doll should look. On Thursday the new plus size Barbie had people outraged the toy has three chins.
According to Yahoo health, the majority of people who saw the doll and were overweight shared that they didn’t have three chins like the latest doll was shown. At most they had two and blasted how the doll looked to make people feel bad about their body weight.
This isn’t the first time Barbie’s concerns has been in the news this week. Valeria Lukyanova, who is known as the human Barbie, announced she has basically given up food. Sharing that she is now mostly eating off of air and light, the human who wants to look like the doll has people concerned if she will survive.
Is there too much concern over Barbie in today's society? The first Babie doll was launched in March, 1959 by Ruth Handler and in 2009 the doll celebrated her 50th anniversary. Over the past five decades fans have debated the proportionally-sized dolls discussing body image, the fashionable clothing and even Ken (Barbie’s beau.) Through it all Barbie has maintained her dignified ladylike qualities and allowed everyone else to discuss their concerns about her. And in the end the girls still play with Barbie dolls just like they did in 1959.
