In a society where overweight people are routinely discriminated against, it may seem frustrating to read yet another article blaming weight for a health related issue. The fact is, some people may be too heavy to conceive. A healthy body mass index (BMI) is between 18.5-24.9. An over weight BMI is between 25-29.9. Anything over 30 is considered obese. Excessive fat can interfere with hormone levels. This in turn may prevent ovulation which would inhibit conception. Losing weight improves your chances for both natural conception and fertility treatments. Overweight women also have higher miscarriage rates. There may be a link between overweight women and poor egg quality. Preliminary research suggests that overweight women have higher IVF success rates with donor eggs.
If you suspect your weight may be a factor in your infertility, set up an appointment with a reproductive endocrinologist. The doctor will be able to determine, through a series of tests, whether you are having hormonal issues. Though being at your optimal weight will not insure fertility, it will certainly improve your health.
The best way to lose weight is through permanent lifestyle changes. Diets tend to be temporary, but an enjoyable exercise routine and a balanced diet can be sustainable changes. If you think you may be a compulsive overeater, consider attending Overeaters Anonymous meetings.

I was overweight and having trouble getting pregnant. Finally I saw my OBGYN who diagnosed me with polycystic ovarian syndrome. Being heavy is one of the factors with PCOS.
I get that being FAT can be a reason someone isn't getting pregnant. But when you are heavy doctors are quick to rule everything else out and just focus on that. Errrr
