The Louisiana House of Representatives voted 67 - 26, passing SB250 which allows Tony to stay at the only home he's ever known - with Michael Sandlin. The long battle against false accusations made about Tony's care and housing as claimed on the website "Save Tony" have been put to rest allowing Tony to be free from the stress of being moved to unfamiliar surroundings and strangers.
Michael Sandlin said "A Big Victory For Small Business, Personal Freedoms, and Tony The Truck Stop Tiger! Although we were out spent 10-1 by ALDF & HSUS Lobbyist's efforts, The TRUTH prevails. A special thanks to all the folks that helped to keep Tony home and to God for seeing this through." in a written statement about the outcome of the vote on SB250. The time and money spent to keep Tony at home shows it is not always about money and sometimes it really is about the love of a big cat. Tony will never be aware of how close he came to getting moved from the only home he's known, but surely if he were, he would be thankful for the outcome. At his age, stress of a new environment, an unnecessary move would have been hard for him to adjust to in a new setting.
Veterinarian records show Tony to be in good health, properly cared for and doing great at his current home of many years. Let's wish him many more surrounded by those who love and know him best.
The photo, taken from the "Keep Tony Where He Is" Facebook page, includes a statement made by the legislature in 2006. Mr. Sandlin irrefutably proved he likes, apparently loves, his tiger. Let's hope they are allowed to live their lives in peace now.
