Many people are in angst over the loss of the record breaking quarterback however others think this may actually be a good thing. Considering the Cowboys have not made the playoffs since 2009, Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles is vital. Not only are the playoffs on the line, many jobs are as well; including head coach Jason Garrett. So what will the Cowboys do with the most important game of many coaches’ and player’s lives on the line?
Former Cowboy’s back-up quarterback Jon Kitna actually reached out to Garrett via text message to volunteer as back-up for now starting quarterback Kyle Orton, says Espn (http://espn.go.com/blog/dallas/cowboys/post/_/id/4722179/text-message-leads-jon-kitna-to-cowboys?ex_cid=espnapi_public). Kitna will be receiving a $53,000 check for this game and will be donating it to Lincoln High School in Tacoma Washington where he is currently coaching.( http://www.latimes.com/sports/sportsnow/la-sp-sn-jon-kitna-cowboys-20131226,0,5675332.story#axzz2oiGUi2RQ). Will the generous donation give Kitna the motivation to win it all for the Cowboys if Orton cannot deliver? We will see come Sunday.
Nevertheless the Cowboys have quite the hurdle to overcome. Dallas fans have varying opinions on the veteran quarterback Romo. Some fans are pleased Romo will not be playing in this hunger game.
Examiner.com spoke with Charles Davis, NFL Analyst for CBS and Fox, to get his opinion on Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo. “Tony Romo is a quarterback that is more likely to be appreciated when he's unable to play. Each week he gives Dallas its best opportunity to win...and because he's so important his mistakes are amplified. I think people will understand how important he actually is to the Cowboys when he is not in the game Sunday.” Said Davis.
If Dallas can pull off this win with their starting quarterback out, their star linebacker out, and a 41 yr old retired back up quarterback; will Dallas finally get respect from the public? Only Sunday will answer that question.
Dallas Cowboys vs. Phillidephia Eagles for a spot in the playoffs is Sunday December 29, 2013 at 7:30pm CST on NBC.
