St. Louis Cardinals Manager Tony La Russa Sues Twitter
St. Louis Cardinal manager Tony La Russa is suing Twitter over a false page on the social networking site that uses his name. The suit claims that the tweets
"significant emotional distress [and] damage to reputation,"
La Russa is suing for trademark infringement, trademark dilution and misappropriation of name and likeness.
The page has since been removed by Twitter and La Russa considers the matter closed.
Included in the court documents was a screenshot of the page and several "Tweets" associated with La Russa's , two of which include remarks and derogatory references to Darryl Kile and Josh Hancock, Cardinals pitchers who died in 2002 and 2007.
Normally Twitter will remove pages upon notification and investigate. In La Russa's case the page was not removed until the lawsuit was filed. The terms of service at Twitter.com prohibit what it calls "non-parody impersonation" and offers a way to remedy the concern.
