Tony Gonzalez' salary is the sticking point on whether the legendary NFL tight end will return for one more season with the Atlanta Falcons in 2013. According to NFL.com on March 10, Gonzalez is ready to retire but is giving Atlanta a chance to change his mind.
One person familiar with the situation said that Gonzalez will return for a $7 million salary and the promise he won't have to do training camp. With 16 years in the league, training camp is probably not that important for Gonzalez, the NFL's leading career tight end.
In 2012, Tony Gonzalez' salary was $3.9 million with a $1 million roster bonus, so that would be a giant raise for the tight end. It does appear that the money is there, so if Atlanta really wants him back, the financial demands should not be a problem.
Tony Gonzalez finished 2012 with 93 receptions for 930 yards and eight touchdowns, proving that his age is of no concern when it comes to his contributions on the field. According to USA Today, Gonzalez plans to return in 2013 which means the Atlanta Falcons seem to have no problem with the Tony Gonzalez salary demands.
