Everybody thinks it’s easy to get a book deal especially if you knew, hung out and were friends with someone like Jim Morrison. Just let a publisher know you knew a famous person and want to write a book and they’ll drop a lot of cash on you in an advance. Unfortunately, it’s not true and a lot of people struggle to write books on ‘spec’ (speculation, without backing or support) even if they were friends with Jim Morrison, or was a bodyguard for the Rolling Stones at Altamont, or worked with legendary concert promoter Barry Fey, such as Tony Funches has.

Tony’s autobiography has a working title of ‘The Ancestor’s Soundtrack’ and will cover his formative years being in the Air Force (or Air Farce) as Tony calls it, during Vietnam, getting a job as a bodyguard for Jim Morrison and how it came to be more than job, but a friendship, how Tony got to be a bodyguard for The Stones at Altamont, and how he took it to making a career out of it with Barry Fey, the legendary Denver, Colorado music promoter.

Tony isn’t a writer and has been struggling writing what he calls The Accursed Book, but he has a unique writing style and is a born story-teller and he has a lot of cool stories to tell and he’s a very cool guy, he was kind enough to write the foreword for my book ‘The Doors Examined’ and he’s very accessible on his Facebook page. Tony is trying to raise $5000 to finish writing ‘The Accursed Book’ (every writer knows the feeling), to finish with the editing of it, as well as for traveling expenses to research parts of the book, as well as the publication expenses. You can contribute to Tony’s campaign at Go Fund Me, any little helps and when he’s finished we’ll have a very cool book to read of some great adventures in the rock ‘n’ roll world!
