Performing at the Grove in Los Angeles today, Lisa Loeb will then be on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno tomorrow on Thursday night. Lisa will be joining Oscar nominees Director Benh Zeitlin (Wesleyan '04) and prodigy Actress Quvenzhane Wallis from the brilliant Beasts of the Southern Wild film. Wallis is the youngest person ever to receive an Oscar nomination for best actress.
Having released No Fairy Tales Tuesday to critical acclaim, Loeb's success is the result of a engaging, sweet personality, an analytic conceptual mind, and a remarkable multi-tasking set of talents including songwriting (combining touching honesty with biting irony in a tasty recipe formed by juxtaposing and cooking up hooked-filled, intelligent pop) and performance in a variety of media.
Loeb's work ethic and talent were already making waves in New York while she was still a Hockaday graduate attending Brown. The progress she was making passed a tipping point in conjunction with the timeless classic Reality Bites (more on this from Lisa to come) when her song hit number one on the charts without yet having a record label, making her the first artist to accomplish this remarkable feat. W.E. You work in multiple media including books, children's music, food, TV, and of course, eyewear. To what degree is your new album impacted by any of your numerous other intriguing projects?
L.L. My albums and other projects are all separate entities. Sometimes the people I work with overlap. I love having different modes and moods to work within.
