Miley Cyrus, the one-time Disney star with the squeaky clean image, has been all over the news lately. Tonight, the most talked-about pop star of the moment is the subject of a new MTV documentary called “Miley: The Movement,” which chronicles her new public persona and musical direction. According to TV By the Numbers and a press release sent out on Oct. 2, MTV was given “unmatched access to Cyrus, who will unabashedly take viewers on her whirlwind journey from tween television sensation to one of pop music’s most magnetic and unapologetically controversial artists.”
Back in August, Miley Cyrus was at the center of a storm of controversy when she “twerked” on stage with Robin Thicke at the 2013 MTV VMAs. After the debacle, CNN posted, “An animated and uninhibited performer, Cyrus’ dance moves were a clear departure from her ‘Hannah Montana’ days.” According to “Us Magazine,” Miley jokes about her VMA performance in a new “SNL” preview. It looks like nothing will be off limits when she hosts “Saturday Night Live” this weekend. To see the new preview, be sure to watch the video above and to the left.
Shortly after her shocking performance at the VMAs, Miley Cyrus released the music video for “Wrecking Ball.” Once again, critics panned Miley for her unabashed use of nudity. However, “Wrecking Ball” vaulted to the top of the charts in a single week, largely because of the racy video. Vevo reported that the video drew 19.3 million views on its first day, beating the previous record holder, a video by One Direction. In one week, more than 36 million people viewed the music video that many called simply "a wreck."
On Oct. 2, Cyrus will once again be back in the news when “Miley: The Movement” airs tonight on MTV. The intimate, 60-minute documentary film captures the full essence and evolution of Cyrus as she gears up for the release of her debut RCA Records album, "Bangerz" on Tuesday, Oct. 8. The special will chronicle her triumphs and struggles at home, in the studio and on the road, as well as the planning, rehearsals, performance and media frenzy surrounding her 2013 MTV VMA performance. “Miley: The Movement” premieres at 10 p.m. EST and PST on Tuesday, Oct. 2 on MTV.
“Miley: The Movement” will also air internationally on MTV channels around the world. The film follows in the footsteps of similar enlightening documentaries that have featured the likes of such superstars as Lady Gaga, Drake, Nicki Minaj, Britney Spears and most recently, Demi Lovato.
