Singer Toni Braxton recently joined The Jenner women and trainer Jillian Michaels, among others at “The Heart Truth 2013 fashion show” runway event held at the Hammerstein Ballroom on New York to kick off fashion week. The fashionista sizzled in a gorgeous Herve L. Leroux gown, but Braxton apparently had a lot more on her mind: a new career move.
After spending over 20 years in her singing career, Braxton has announced plans to retire and cross over to the television and movies, according to a Feb. 11 E! News report.
“For what I do I have to love it. I have to feel that excitement and it's gone,” Braxton told theGrio. “I'm just not going to do any albums anymore; maybe touring occasionally here and there because I love performing, but not as much as I did in the past. But no new projects.”
According to E! News, the “Unbreak My Heart” singer has sold over 60 million records worldwide and won six Grammy Awards. Her last new work was 2010's Pulse, and a dance-pop single “I Heart You” last year.
Braxton, who suffers from Lupus recently took on her lead acting role in Lifetime’s “Twist of Faith.” The budding actress played a gospel singer and single mom who falls for a Jewish cantor from Brooklyn. So what does Braxton see in her acting future? She told the website that she wants to play more challenging roles: like playing a lesbian.
“I would like to play a lesbian,” she said. “I don't know why. And do a whole make-out scene and the whole thing; just something completely different than people would expect from me. Not a lipstick lesbian, either.”
Acting would also serve a way for the actress to escape her reality television resume. She stars on her WE TV reality television show, “Braxton Family Values” with her sisters and mother. “I hate to have reality star behind my name,” the actress said. "That's just not what I wanted to be when I grew up."
Meanwhile, the third season of “Braxton Family Values” debuts on March 14.
