TOMS shoes introduces Animal Initiative to save endangered animals

TOMS expands their continuous acts of philanthropy by introducing a new initiative that helps to drive awareness and funding for global animal protection. By partnering with non-profit animal conservation organizations, TOMS aims to protect animals in danger of extinction. The first partnership is with the Virunga National Park, to support the decreasing population of endangered mountain gorillas in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, who are threatened by poachers, habitat destruction and their own slow reproduction rates. The limited edition summer 2014 footwear collection launched with four vegan TOMS Earthwise Classics, featuring the Virunga National Park’s logo, and an embroidered version of one of the mountain gorillas they’re fighting to save.

The Collection features four styles - one for women, men, kids, and toddlers in two colors - Natural for women and Washed Green for men, kids, and toddlers. These vegan Earthwise Classics boasts an upper and insole cover made of a blend of hemp and recycled polyester, one-piece outsole for flexibility and durability, is made with recycled and/or sustainable materials, and is of course vegan-friendly, using no animal products. Along with raising money and awareness for animals, TOMS's One for One program is still in play so for every pair of the Animal Initiative shoes you purchase, TOMS will give a pair of shoes to a child in need.

This collection is available now and retails between $42.00 - $64.00 per pair. While the gorillas will be the first to benefit from this wonderful initiative, they will not be the last. For the fall 2014, TOMS turns their attention to African Elephants. Get a sneak peek at the fall collection in the slideshow
