Many folks thought Hugh Laurie was an antagonist when he played Dr. House on the television series that lasted for eight season. While his character was the protagonist, he was also so abrasive as to appear the villain each week. Laurie played House as the doctor everyone wanted for a cure, but no one wanted for bedside manner. That experience may help him in his next role.
Laurie may not be stretching too far out of character when he legitimately plays the bad guy in “Tomorrowland”, a sci-fi adventure coming from the fine folks at Disney. Laurie will cross swords with hero George Clooney. The plot for “Tomorrowland” is being kept under wraps. Folks working on the production were forced to sign affidavits claiming they would not leak details of the story.
Originally, rumors circulated the film was biographical in nature, detailing the creation of Disneyland. Clooney was rumored to be playing Walt Disney. Those rumors were soon denied and The Hollywood Reporter claimed the movie was a sci-fi tale, said to have the epic proportions of “Close Encounters of the Third Kind”. That's mighty big talk.
Not long after the sci-fi rumors circulated, the studio released a Tweet claiming the film had nothing to do with aliens. The impact of the movie, whether a planned sci-fi epic or a biopic of the creator of Mickey Mouse, remains to be seen, however, the combination of Clooney and Laurie, if managed properly, could be worth the price of admission. The film is scheduled for a December, 2014 release.
