Tomodachi Life” is set for a June 6 release on the Nintendo 3DS and 2DS, Nintendo confirmed in a press release today obtained by Examiner.

A social game that uses the various Mii characters stored in your handheld, “Tomodachi Life” allows you to customize everything from their clothes, personality and even voices. The drama that unfolds after is where the fun begins. Much like “Sims” or “Animal Crossing,” anything can happen, but considering the fact that many Miis are based on real people, there’s an extra level to the fun.

A sensation in Japan, the game has sold over 5.5 million copies.

To help build awareness for the game’s North American release, singer Christina Aguilera is set to star in a promotional campaign and her Mii character will be available in the game at launch as well.

“Nintendo fans are familiar with Mii characters, but now they come to life in ways they never have before – with their own lives, interests and personalities,” Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing said in today’s release. “Customization and open-ended play are two big video game trends for 2014, and Tomodachi Life delivers a fun, creative experience that makes you want to visit again and again, because there’s always something interesting going on.”
