Progressive Rock otherwise known as prog rock has been around for four decades. But most people feel that it peaked in the mid seventies. With such inspiration coming from numerous groups such as YES, Genesis, Rush and STYX, prog rock carried on through the mid eighties.
STYX went on to fame and were known to follow Moody Blues, Emereson, Lake and Palmer and released a sefl-titled debut album STYX. This was followed up by STYX II in 1973. Their choice of prog rock carried them well into the eighties with numerous award winning hits. "BABE" "The Grand Illusion", "Lady" "Come Sail Away" "Mr. Roboto""Fooling Yourself" and many more hits kept this prog band in the top ten for a long time. Along with the music was the genius mind of Tommy Shaw. With Tommy Shaw now providing the voice and lyrics they had a platinum album release in 1981 - Paradise Theater. Not only did this album sell over three million copies in a three year period, but it also helped STYX make history. This was the first time a band released four consecutive triple-platinum albums.
Sunday night STYX fired on all cylinders as they rocked Hudson Gardens and Event Center. This was a show that was not to be missed. It was one of the favorites that fans made sure they purchased tickets the first week Hudson Gardens and Event Center introduced their summer concert lineup.
Tommy Shaw, James "JY" Young, Lawrence Gowan Todd Sucherman and Ricky Phillips still proved that their prog rock is like non other.
