Tommy’s in Clear Lake to host oyster appellation tasting

Something unique and highlighting the increasing appreciation of regional foodstuffs, Tommy’s Restaurant & Oyster Bar in Clear Lake will be hosting an oyster appellation tasting on the afternoon of Saturday, April 6, 2013. There are over 200 oyster appellations in North America. This event will feature a tasting of eight to eleven different oyster appellations just from Galveston Bay reefs. At the event, you can taste the surprising diversity among these most local of oysters.

The oysters to be tasted are not only distinct, but of generally higher quality. “Only 90 out of a 1,000 oysters will bear its appellations name,” according to Tommy’s owner, Tom Tollett.

The cost for the event is $50 per person which will include appetizers, the oyster tasting, wine and beer, and also a map of Galveston Bay showing the location of each appellation. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Galveston Bay Foundation.
