Mariah Carey has found herself once again connected to her ex-husband Tommy Mottola. This time he's taking credit for Mariah Carey's success and letting the world know she became famous because of him. According to reports by Radar Online on Sunday, Jan. 6 the New York Post provided and excerpt of Tommy Mottola's new tell all memoir "Hitmaker" which contains information about his relationship with ex-wife Mariah Carey.
Tommy Mottola works as a music executive and is the co-owner of Casablanca Records in a joint venture with the Universal Music Group. Mariah Carey and Tommy Mottola were married for almost five years when they divorced in 1997. Mariah Carey has often referred to Tommy Mottola as both controlling and emotionally abusive.
"If it seemed I was controlling, I apologize," he writes. "Was I obsessive? Yes. But that was also part of the reason for her success."
Mariah Carey and Tommy Mottola were not only married they also worked together in the beginning of her music career. Tommy Mottola has written in the memoir "Hitmaker" his history surrounding his life and career with the musical icon Mariah Carey.
Years after their 1997 divorce, music executive Mottola is telling his side of the story about his personal and professional partnership with one of America's most famous pop stars. In the book, Mottola recalls how after hearing then 18-year-old Mariah's demo record, he thought to himself, "That may be the best voice you've ever heard in your life!"
While Tommy Mottola admits to controlling behavior it appears he took things too far when he secluded Mariah away from people and confined her to their mansion.
Mottola admits in Hitmaker that he made all the musical decisions for the singer and confined her to their Bedford, New York mansion. Carey later called the property "Sing Sing" and their marriage "a private hell."
Mariah Carey is now happily married to actor and comedian Nick Canton after only dating for just six short weeks. On their third anniversary April 30, 2011, Mariah Carey gave birth to fraternal twins.
