Former Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda was hospitalized after a mild heart attack on Monday. Lasorda was in New York representing the Dodgers for the first year player draft. According to TMZ Lasorda was out on the town Sunday evening. He was laughing, signing autographs, and eating Italian food at a media gathering.
In 1996 Lasorda ended his illustrious coaching career when he had a heart attack. MLB.com says that Lasorda has remained a high-ranking club member since his retirement. He is currently the "Special Adviser to the Chairman”.
A few key components of the MLB draft:
MLB draft is also known as the First-Year-Player-Draft.
- MLB is the primary mechanism for assigning amateur players.
- Amateur players are selected from college, some high schools, and other amateur baseball clubs.
- The MLB historically has had far less media coverage than other sports.
- Unlike top draft picks for NBA, NFL, and NHL, who are expected to make an immediate impact on their teams, the majority of MLB picks are sent to minor league teams to hone their skills before playing on a Major League team.
