Tommy Davidson is headlining The Wilbur on Friday, January 18, at 7:30 p.m.
The actor, stand-up comedian, musician, and singer’s exceptional range has made him a rising force in entertainment. Davidson is best known as one of the original cast members of the hit television show “In Living Color”. He has also been seen in multiple films and other television shows, most recently Tommy as a guest star on "Everybody Hates Chris" as well as a host on Comedy Central's “Live at Gotham”.
Davidson started out performing stand-up in local talent showcases where he was spotted by concert promoters who booked him as the opening act for such major music stars as Patti LaBelle, Kenny G, and Luther Vandross. Throughout his early career, he performed at many small clubs including the Comedy Act Theatre, where he eventually met Robert Townsend and Keenen Ivory Wayans, who would later prove instrumental in his career.
Davidson's first national television appearance was a starring role in Townsend's “Partners in Crime”. He was then offered him the opportunity to audition for a primetime variety show called “In Living Color”, which became a cult favorite and a huge ratings success. Davidson's hilarious impressions of Sammy Davis Jr., Michael Jackson, and others were some of the most talked-about bits on the show.
The Boston Comedy Scene Examiner recently spent some time chatting with Davidson about his career, the sensation that was In Living Color, and his musical aspirations. You can hear the entire interview on the latest episode of the Boston Comedy Scene Examiner’s podcast, “Angie’s Laughing Matters.”
