When a legend speaks, it’s time to listen. When a leader of one of the most dominant programs in college football history speaks, you better listen. In a story reported by CBSsports.com, on Monday September 16, Tommie Frazier let off a tweet hours after the latest Nebraska Cornhusker debacle. After leading UCLA 21-3, Nebraska gave up 38 straight points to lose 41-21.
While it’s never good to panic, it’s way beyond time to make some changes in Lincoln. CBS Sports notes that Nebraska has given up 500 or more yards in four of the past five games. Things are seeming to get progressively worse by the game. During this streak, some of the offenses that the Cornhuskers faced have not been world beaters.
Here’s the entire tweet by Tommie Frazier
"After letting it sink in for about 4 hours I still struggling. It's time to get rid of the defensive play caller, the Dc, lb dl and db coaches. I hate saying this but this crap is getting old. How in the hell do you not make adjustments or put your players in the position to compete? If this is what is going to happen for the remainder of the season, count me out. I don't care if we lose a game but the way we are losing is just not what #Nebraska fans deserve. I have fought, bled, and cried over this program. I didn't do all that for the program to become what it has today. Time for change! I will comment about the offense this week on Tommie's X's and O's. Trust me you don't want to miss it. #Huskers"
The tweet is enlightening, bold and may infuse of breath of fresh air into a stale program. You would think coming off of a Big 10 title game appearance would be good, but somehow the Huskers have won games by smoke and mirrors. The loss to Wisconsin was an embarrassment. Wisconsin’s last four games point totals last season were (14, 21, 70, 14) including the 70 points that Nebraska gave up. They lost three of those games. Guess which one they won.
Since then, the defense has not gotten better. The running joke for the Cornhuskers’ defense is “Oregon has the second best offense in the nation and the best offense is whichever team is playing Nebraska.”
Tommie Frazier also said he will get on the offense this week. After a second quarter score, they stopped playing as well. Don’t mean to put any added pressure on Nebraska, but if they don’t score 40 points, they won’t win another game.
