Tomb Raider reboot releases on March 5, 2013.

Action-adventure game fans that have been anxiously awaiting the return of one of gaming's most beloved females Lara Croft, can rejoice as the upcoming Tomb Raider reboot releases on March 5, 2013 after numerous delays. The title was developed by U.S. based Crystal Dynamics and publishing duties are being handled by Square Enix.

Lara Croft emerged as one of the prominent figures of the gaming world in the late '90s riding the success of the first three Tomb Raider games. However, a string of less than stellar titles released during the PS2/Xbox era saw Lara fall from her once lofty status allowing characters such as Nathan Drake from the popular Playstation 3 'Uncharted' series to take the mantle of being the premier action-adventure figurehead.

Crystal Dynamics chose to reboot the Tomb Raider series from the ground up, re-imagining everything from the gameplay down to the iconic star's looks. Gone is the voluptuous, under-dressed woman and in her place they have chosen to go with a younger, realistically proportioned and more suitably dressed woman to go along with the game's dark and gritty atmosphere.

The game tasks players with surviving and presumably escaping an island after being shipwrecked and washed ashore. You are not alone on this island however and will come face to face with dangerous animals, scavengers and other inhabitants looking to do Lara harm. The island setting allows for open world design and gives players the freedom to choose how and when they go about tackling the game's objectives.

Early word of mouth and reviews coming in before the game's release have been overwhelmingly positive and the game is currently sitting at an 87 aggregate ranking on Metacritic.com. For those of you interested in picking this title up check with your local game stores as well as online markets such as Amazon.com for the different pre order bonuses available to you. The game will ship with both a regular and collector's edition available for $59.99 and $99.99 respectively with the collector's edition shipping in a metal survivor's tin with an 8" Lara Croft figurine, soundtrack, map and other in-game items.
