Tomb Raider Limited Edition Xbox 360 controller revealed

A brand new limited edition controller, you say? You got my attention.

On Thursday, January 10th, 2013 a limited edition Tomb Raider Xbox 360 controller was unveiled, which will be available the day the game launches in March. Square Enix and Microsoft has combined efforts with the artists at Crystal Dynamics for this stunning controller.

The design was inspired by Lara Croft's axe and tourniquets.

You can see more of this controller by viewing the video by Larry Hryb of Xbox Live's Major Nelson below, or visiting his site.

He states in the video:

"In addition, those who purchase the Xbox 360 Tomb Raider Limited Edition wireless controller, will receive a download token for an Xbox 360 exclusive playable Tomb Raider character."

The wireless range on this controller is up to 30 feet and will cost $59.99 in the U.S.

On the Xbox Live's Major Nelson website, there is also a contest for the controller. There are five of these controllers up for grabs. To enter, just check out the posting and leave a comment about your favorite Tomb Raider game.

The reviews so far on the design have been mixed. While some people can't seem to understand the reason behind different controller design, others are excited. Some have been questioning why they would spend $60 on a controller that looks worn, when they can make their own controller look that way as well.

As for me personally, I love the idea of limited edition controllers. I like all the little details of the Tomb Raider controller, including the black fingerprints.

I haven't filled up a collection of random limited edition controllers, but it's a fun additional accessory if you are a fan of a particular game. A few controllers I have considered in the past: the Star Wars C3PO controller that is not sold separately from the system, and the Halo Reach controller.

What do you think about personalized controllers? Do you have one, and will the Tomb Raider controller be one you consider?
