During the VGX award shows, Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics announced that Tomb Raider will be coming to the PS4 and Xbox One in early 2014. Titled Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, the PS4 and Xbox One version of the game will have exclusive features as the game has been completely rebuilt for these next-gen home consoles.
Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, developed by United Front Games, Nixxes, and cores member of the Crystal Dynamics Tomb Raider team, will make use of the next-gen console’s more powerful hardware to deliver a greater game experience.
Likewise, the PS4 and Xbox One version of Tomb Raider will have exclusive features, and these features have been full detailed.
The Xbox One version of Tomb Raider will support Kinect by allowing players to change weapons, attachments, and navigate through the menus with your voice. Furthermore, players can rotate and investigate relics with hand gestures, and find new perspectives by “leaning" into the world.
PlayStation 4 also has exclusive new features not found on other platforms. The PS4’s DualShock 4 controller lights up red and orange when a torch is in Lara’s hands. The controller will also flash red whenever a shot is fired.
The most exciting PS4 feature is the ability to stream Tomb Raider to the PS Vita.
On a visual level, the development team has rebuilt the entire game and added extra detail by utilizing new technology. According to the company the new hardware has allowed them to “reach a vision for the game” they always wanted.
Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition will run at a native resolution of 1080p, support TressFX hair rendering, and a next-gen Lara Croft model. Also new to the game are the following features:
- The fully rebuilt game for next-generation consoles
- The Tomb of the Lost Adventurer
- Eight DLC multiplayer maps
- Six DLC multiplayer weapons
- Four DLC multiplayer characters
- Six outfits for Lara
- Dark Horse digital comic book “Tomb Raider: The Beginning”
