Promoter Kathy Duva announced Saturday that IBF North America heavyweight titlist “Granite Chin” Tomasz Adamek will defend his unknown belt against Ukrainian Vyacheslav Glazkov on November 16 at a venue to be determined.
The 36-year-old Adamek (49-2, 29 KOs) is slated to meet the 28-year-old Glazkov (15-0-1, 11 KOs) on an afternoon broadcast that will begin on NBC at 3PM EST.
“We are quite pleased to present this classic match-up between a tough, highly respected veteran and two-division former world champion in Adamek, and an exciting, young up-and-coming former Olympic medalist in Glazkov on our next NBC afternoon broadcast,” said Duva.
“Being back on network TV for the third time in just 11 months makes this event that much more special. When Adamek appeared on NBC, last December, he brought the biggest television audience of 2012. We won’t be surprised if Adamek-Glazkov garners the biggest audience on broadcast or cable television for 2013, as well. I cannot thank everyone at NBC Sports enough for this incredible platform and the support that they have shown for professional boxing over the past two years.”
Also a past WBC world light heavyweight king and IBF and The Ring cruiserweight champion, Adamek last vacated the squared circle with a unanimous decision victory over Dominick Guinn on August 3.
Conversely, on the same evening, Glazkov finished American Byron Polley with a third round TKO.
Adamek is a solid prizefighter with grit and underrated power.
Nevertheless, “Granite Chin” is nothing more than a ballooned cruiserweight with zero chance to ever trump a Klitschko.
After stopping Vyacheslav Glazkov within eight rounds this autumn, Tomasz Adamek should reconsider his position as a heavyweight.
