On April 28th, Tom Robbins will take part in the Hennepin County Library Foundation’s Talk of the Stacks series to discuss his new book, B is for Beer. Robbins calls his new tale “the first children’s book about beer,” though it’s intended for adult audiences.
Sure, some may prefer more traditional storybook fare, and others will raise an eyebrow at the thought of a children’s book detailing the pleasures of alcohol, but Robbins has proven over the course of his career that he is incapable of producing conventional work. His novels include Jitterbug Perfume, the story of a time-traveling king in search of the fountain of youth, and Another Roadside Attraction, about a football player disguised as a monk who shakes the foundations of organized religion when he discovers a certain corpse in the basement of the Vatican. Readers would be hard-pressed to find any boy-meets-girl, coming-of-age clichés in his writing.
The discussion will take place at the Central Library in downtown Minneapolis. The doors open at 6:15 pm, and the presentation starts at 7. Admission is free and seats fill up fast, so be sure to arrive early.
