Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers announce new album and 2014 North American tour

Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers are back with an upcoming album and a planned 2014 tour of Canada and the U.S. The veteran Gainsville, Fla. heartland rockers will hit the road for an extensive summer - fall tour in support of their 13th studio album "Hypnotic Eye," scheduled for release on July 29.

According to news releases posted May 20 at the TomPetty.com, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and longtime band will head out for a 30-city trek, which will begin in August. The tour kicks off Aug. 3 in San Diego, Calif. at Viejas Arena and wraps up Oct. 10 in Inglewood, Calif. at The Forum.

The coast to coast Canadian leg begins Aug. 14 in Vancouver, B.C. at Rogers Arena and finishes Aug. 28 at Montreal's Bell Centre. "Hypnotic Eye" will be released in digital, vinyl and Blu-ray audio editions, as well as on CD. Vinyl lovers can purchase the album either as a single disc or as double album that includes an additional track. Fans who preorder the release on iTunes and Amazon beginning June 3 will receive an instant download of the first of several tracks from the album.

The "Free Fallin'' hitmakers previously announced a couple of summer festival headline appearances, which include Aug. 9 in San Francisco, Calif. at Outside Land Music and Arts Festival, as well as Sept. 6 in Arrington, Va. at Interlocking Music Festival. On May 20, Petty tweeted a tease about playing Boston’s Fenway Park.
