Tom Hiddleston has signed on to star in Legendary Pictures’ haunted house thriller “Crimson
Peak,” directed by Guillermo del Toro. The announcement was made Friday, September 6th by a spokesperson for Legendary Pictures. No specifics are available regarding Hiddleston’s role at this time. The film, which is set to begin shooting in January 2014, also includes Jessica Chastain, Mia Wasikowska and Charlie Hunnam.
Legendary will produce and be a participating financing partner on the movie, with Universal Pictures retaining an option to also finance at a later date.
Hiddleston’s past credits include “Thor,” Steven Spielberg’s “War Horse,” “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Woody Allen’s “Midnight in Paris,” and “Deep Blue Sea.” He will next be seen in an equally eclectic slate including Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World,” “Only Lovers Left Alive” and “Muppets Most Wanted.”
Del Toro will be helming from a script he co-wrote with veteran scribe Matthew Robbins, believed to be an uncredited writer on both George Lucas’ “THX 1138” and Steven Spielberg’s “Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” as well as a credited writer on Spielberg’s feature debut, “The Sugarland Express,” “MacArthur,” “*batteries not included” and “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark,” and Lucinda Coxon (“Wild Target”).
An April, 2015 release is planned.
