Screen Daily learned yesterday of a new real-time thriller coming to theaters (possibly later this year).
“Locke,” written and directed by Steven Knight (“Eastern Promises”), will star Tom Hardy (“The Dark Knight Rises”) as a man on the road to success who must race to save his life from unraveling after he receives a mysterious phone call.
There have been many (failed) attempts at making real-time thrillers recently (like “88 Minutes”), but with a decent writer, and an incredible lead, one would hope that this one would be the exception, and might revamp that sub-genre.
Tom Hardy, typically, doesn’t choose bad roles (at least not bad roles on paper), but sometimes he gets screwed over by poor editing and a bad director (“Lawless” for example); hopefully that doesn’t happen this time.
