Tom Hanks' tears for Nora Ephron: 'I miss her. What more can you say?' (Video)

Tom Hanks was in tears over his longtime close friend, the late writer Nora Ephron, during a standing ovation for his Broadway debut of "Lucky Guy," reported the New York Post on April 3. Ephron, who died of leukemia in 2012, completed the play before her death at the age of 71. Hanks plays the late New York Post and Daily News columnist Mike McAlary. "That was a tough moment. We were going to do this, and Nora and [show director] George C. Wolfe were going to walk out onstage. I miss her. What more can you say?" said the 56-year-old actor.

Ephron, known for such hits as “Sleepless in Seattle," "When Harry Met Sally," and "Julie and Julia," was a favorite among many actors, including Billy Crystal, Meg Ryan, Nicole Kidman, Meryl Streep, and more.

The number of female screenwriters is nowhere near so large as the number of male screenwriters. Tom Hanks' tears over Nora Ephron were tears over a woman who broke the "glass ceiling" in screenwriting for the big screen.
