This Saturday, Zanies Comedy Club in St. Charles welcomes Tom Green -- a comedian who has entertained pop culture audiences in almost every genre of the media for nearly 25 years.
Tom Green is perhaps best known for his dialed-up-to-the-extreme talk show, The Tom Green Show, which was made famous in 1999 when it became nationally syndicated on MTV. Before that, The Tom Green Show was aired on public access cable television in Ottawa, Canada where Tom is originally from.
Tom's start in showbusiness actually began as a stand-up comedian at the age of 15, where he performed at local suburban Ottawa comedy clubs -- primarily Yuk Yuk's Comedy Club in Ottawa.
Although inspired by comedy, Tom's professional direction turned to broadcasting when he attended Algonquin College, where he studied televion and radio. After he graduated, Green hosted a call-in radio show about rap music at the University of Ottawa. It was there that he met Glen Humplik, who was disc jockeying an electronic music show. The two eventually created their own show format, where local students would call in only to have Tom and Glen make fun of them and then hang up.
On-air impromptu comedy and simple "wackiness" is what lead Tom to create his own talk show, which was similar to talk shows hosted by comedians like David Letterman (who is one of Tom's idols), but with an added insanity component that put its guests on the spot and made them so baffled and uncomfortable that they didn't know if Tom Green was a comedian or a lunatic.
After rising success on public access television, The Tom Green Show got picked up by MTV and had a successful four year run from 1999 thru 2003.
Tom has appeared in several movies as well. Heckler, Now That's Funny, Road Trip, Charlie's Angels, and Stealing Harvard are films that Tom has appeared in. The biggest film for Tom was Freddy Got Fingered, mainly because he wrote, directed, and starred in it as well.
Showtimes for Tom Green at Zanies are 7:30pm and 9:45pm. For more information, call 630-584-6342 or go to www.zanies.com.
