Tom Cruise ‘swatted’ by unidentified caller

When the Beverly Hills police responded to the 911 report of an "armed robbery in progress" at Tom Cruise's Beverly Hills home, they thought it was it was the real deal, says a TODAY report dated Jan. 18. They soon discovered that the report was false and that Tom Cruise had been the victim of a swatting call.

Swatting refers to calls reporting a false crime that results the SWAT Team being dispatched to the scene. Similar swatting calls reporting crimes at homes of celebrities have occurred in the recent past, including calls involving the homes of Charlie Sheen, Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber and Ashton Kutcher.

Upon arrival the police discovered that Tom Cruise and his family were not home, but the security officers were present. After conducting a search of the property, the officers concluded there was no emergency at Tom Cruise's home.

According to Gawker a 12-year-old boy, who used a computer program to set up false accounts made TTY calls to the police to report several false emergencies, was arrested in December. The boy reportedly made the swatting calls via messages to the LAPD that involved the homes of Ashton Kutcher and Justin Bieber, along with swatting calls involving local businesses.

No word on the origin of the swatting call involving Tom Cruise’s home is available at this time.
