SWAT teams surrounded two celebrity mansions this weekend after both the Kardashians and Tom Cruise got swatted. "Swatting" is when prank callers call 911 claiming there is an emergency at a home with the intention of having SWAT teams dispatched. They're just the latest celebrities to fall victim to swatting -- a practice Kim Kardashian, on Saturday, called "dangerous."
In the case of the Kardahsian swatting, pranksters claimed there was a shooting at the Kardashian-Jenner home and that the shooter was still inside the home. TMZ reports at least 15 police surrounded the home, along with 3 helicopters. Kim, who was not at her family's Hidden Hills home at the time, later tweeted about the pranks. “These prank calls are NOT funny! People can get arrested for this! I hope they find out who is behind this. It’s dangerous & not a joke!” Her younger sister, Kendall, also took to Instagram to share details and photos of the prank.
Just a day before the Kardashians got swatted, Tom Cruise's home was also swarmed by police after a reported burglary. The Huffington Post reports the actor was not home at the time of the fake 911 call.
It's unclear if both swatting cases are linked, but they're just the latest in a string of celebrity swattings. Justin Bieber, Simon Cowell, and Ashton Kutcher have also been targeted.
