After bashing in a few heads as Jack Reacher, Tom Cruise has been on a serious sci-fi kick. Earlier this year he starred in Oblivion, which was fairly well-received critically but failed to live up the actor's box office standards. It didn't stop him from going back to the well one more time, suiting up for Doug Liman's Edge of Tomorrow, an futuristic war film that has just released an explosive first trailer.
Based on the Japanese novel All You Need is Kill, Edge of Tomorrow stars Cruise as Lt. Col. Bill Cage, thrust into a war against an alien race's relentless assault, only to be killed in the first wave. But that's not the end of his story as he's thrown into a time loop in which he relives the same battle repeatedly, improving each time and changing his fate. Emily Blunt, also spending a lot of time in the sci-fi realm lately, plays a mysterious soldier who may have clues to exactly what is going on. Liman has always been a great action filmmaker and the CGI appears to be top notch, but he's got a lot of work to do convincing people this isn't just sci-fi Groundhog Day.
Edge of Tomorrow opens June 6th 2014!
