Tom Clancy, renowned author best known for classics such as The Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games, and Clear and Present Danger, passed away in a Baltimore hospital last night, according to the New York Times. Clancy was 66.
While best known for his novels which spawned successful films, Clancy also had a large influence in the video game industry, where he co-founded Red Storm Entertainment in 1996. Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six in 1998 began a varying series of titles bearing Clancy's name and influence, with over 40 titles to date. Red Storm Entertainment was purchased by Ubisoft in 2000 and is now known as Ubisoft Red Storm.
The most recent title under the Clancy name, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Blacklist, was released by Ubisoft on August 20, 2013. A new title, Tom Clancy's The Division, was revealed at this year's E3 in Los Angeles.

Clancy's name was also attached to projects such as Ghost Recon, H.A.W.X., and End War.
