Tom Chapin at RVCC Theatre on January 25 (Video)

Singer/songwriter Tom Chapin will perform at the Theatre at Raritan Valley Community in Branchburg on Friday, January 25 at 7 p.m. Chapin will be joined on stage by extraordinary musicians Jon Cobert and Michael Mark. The performance is part of the Theatre’s Family Series and is recommended for ages eight and older. Tickets cost $20 and $25.

Tom Chapin, a renowned singer/songwriter for both family and adult audiences, serves up a mix of family music, story songs, sing-alongs, old-time folk classics and a favorite song or two by his late brother Harry’s (view video). Adults and kids alike are part of the action, as they lend their voices, sing a round, learn a song in sign language and discover the music of a didgeridoo.

In a career that spans over 30 years, 22 albums and three Grammy awards, Chapin has covered an incredible amount of creative ground. In addition to his work as a recording artist and concert performer, Chapin has acted on Broadway, and has worked extensively in television, radio and films. Chapin also serves as narrator of a series of children's books, three of which, Mama Don't Allow, There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Fly and The Train They Call The City Of New Orleans, have won Grammy awards in the Best Spoken Word Album for Children category.

In conjunction with the performance, RVCC Youth Programs is offering a Guitar Design class at 5:30 p.m. Children ages six and up will have the opportunity to use craft items, such as markers, beads, buttons and string, to decorate their own guitar-shaped form.
