On Friday, Feb. 8, the Tom Carney for Mayor Campaign announced they have received the endorsement of the Police Benevolent Association. This is the first major organization to endorse in the Delray Beach Mayor’s race.
“I am honored to receive the endorsement of our local police in my campaign for Delray Beach Mayor. Public safety is a top priority of mine and a responsibility I take very seriously. As Mayor I have made a commitment to opening up more dialogue between the City, our neighborhoods and police so we can develop community supported solutions that increase public safety for everyone,” Mayor Tom Carney stated.
The Police Benevolent Association (PBA) interviewed Tom Carney and the other Delray Beach Mayoral Candidates on Wednesday, February 6. The PBA is the first organization to release their endorsement in the Mayor’s race.
Tom Carney’s campaign has also been endorsed by current and former elected officials in Palm Beach County including, State Senator Joe Abruzzo, State Representative Lori Berman, State Representative Bill Hager, State Representative Bobby Powell, Jr., City Commissioner Angeleta Gray, former Delray Beach Mayor Hon. Dr. Jay Alperin, former Delray Beach Mayor Hon. Doak Campbell, former Delray Beach Mayor Hon. Rita Ellis, Hon. Alberta McCarthy, former Delray Beach Mayor Hon. Woodie McDuffie, Hon. Jimmy Witherspoon and hundreds of residents, neighborhood leaders and business professionals across Delray Beach.
Tom Carney has been a Delray Beach resident since 1995. Tom received a B.S. degree from Spring Hill College, a Law Degree from Boston College, and an LLM (Taxation) from Georgetown University Law School. Currently, Tom practices law in Delray Beach with Carney Stanton P.L. Tom was also one of the founders of Carney Bank, which is now part of the Wells Fargo system. Carney Bank was a local bank dedicated to serving local residents and businesses for many years.
Tom Carney has over 16 years of public service experience in our City. Before joining the City Commission in 2011, Tom served on the Delray Beach Housing Authority for 7 years and the Community Redevelopment Agency for 8 years. Tom Carney brings a unique perspective to the Delray Beach City Commission. With a background in finance, business management and the legal field, Tom has shown the ability to understand and address complex city issues.
