Tom Brokaw recalls how he quit college to pursue other interests and that he quickly learned his mistake. The South Dakota boy went on to become the most highly regarded news personality in the U.S. later in his career when he was anchoring the "NBC Nightly News." Brokaw also authored a highly acclaimed book, "The Greatest Generation."
Brokaw's instincts to return to college are reinforced by a recent report showing that the higher the level of education, the lower the unemployment rate, according to the Department of Employment and Economic Development. The report, released August 2013, “Geographic Profile of Employment and Unemployment,” confirms a long-standing trend.
See the accompanying graphic from that report showing how people over 25 with no high school diploma had an unemployment rate that was four times greater than those with a bachelor’s degree or higher during the year 2012.
See "Should I quit college?" where it is reported that nearly half of all working adults have some regrets about choices they made in pursuing higher education.
