Tom Brokaw was diagnosed with cancer over the summer and silently began treatment without unveiling said diagnosis to the world. On Feb. 11, Yahoo! News reported that Brokaw has multiple myeloma, a cancer that affects blood cells in bone marrow. Although very serious, doctors say that Brokaw's prognosis is "encouraging."

"In a personal note, NBC News Special Correspondent Tom Brokaw revealed he has been diagnosed with cancer and said he and his physicians are very encouraged with the progress he is making," Yahoo! News reports.

Since Tom Brokaw was diagnosed with cancer, he has continued to work, appearing on television and doing special reports for NBC. While the course of his treatment has not been released (chemotherapy is suspected), Brokaw has managed to stay on top of his work and keep plugging forward. In a statement that he released today, Brokaw said that he wishes to keep this health matter private.

"With the exceptional support of my family, medical team and friends, I am very optimistic about the future and look forward to continuing my life, my work and adventures still to come. I remain the luckiest guy I know. I am very grateful for the interest in my condition but I also hope everyone understands I wish to keep this a private matter," Brokaw said.

Tom Brokaw's cancer diagnosis is certainly sad. However, Brokaw seems to be in good spirits and if he is well enough to continue working and living his life the way he enjoys it, that's all anyone can wish for.
