Tom Brady: I'll never be in Joe's category

A trip back near his hometown was especially memorable for New England Patriots Tom Brady, but not just because he bounced back after a tough loss in week three. Brady surpassed one of his idols in the process and did it all just minutes from where he grew up.

Tom Brady helped the New England Patriots defeat the Oakland Raiders 31-19 by completing 16 of 30 passes for 226 yards and two touchdowns. Unlike against the Jets when he had a whopping four interceptions, Brady was pick free in this game.

In addition to tying Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning with a 13th-consecutive game with two or more touchdown passes, Brady passed the great Joe Montana for all-time touchdown passes. Brady's 274 in his career moves him into ninth in NFL history.

Unaware of the feat prior to speaking at his post-game press conference, the quarterback was humble, as always.

"Well Joe's... I'll never be in Joe's category," he said. "We throw the ball a lot more than they threw it back then. It's much more of a passing league now than it's ever been."

Having grown up in San Mateo, California, just outside of San Francisco, Brady idolized Joe Montana and watched him play nearby with the 49ers.

While it's not the first time he'd tied or broken one of Montana's records, also sharing the achievement of multiple Super Bowl and NFL MVP awards, surpassing his idol on the road near his childhood home must have been especially memorable.

Brady took little time to focus on himself, instead praising his teammates, including receiver Wes Welker, and the rest of the team.

"It was a good game for us," Brady added. "Every one of those touchdowns was important today. It was fun. It was fun to be back out there after what happened last week."
