Tom Brady attributes Patriots victory to execution, not spying

The Patriots 34-31 comeback victory over the Houston Texans on Sunday has caused Texans defensive end Antonio Smith to suggest that the Patriots were “spying” on Houston. But as reports on December 2, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady brushed off the suggestion and attributed the victory to simply execution.

In his Monday interview with WEEI, Brady was more focused on the team’s execution and moving on to next week more than he was on Smith’s suspicions.

“I don’t really think of it, truthfully. I just kind of have moved on.”

The Patriots fell behind 17-7 and looked horrible on defense and didn’t execute offensively like they are accustomed to. The team just simply made the adjustments and executed.

“Execution is the name of the game. We did a good job there in the second half.”

Brady acknowledged that Houston did do some things they weren’t expecting, but nothing that they weren’t able to find an answer for. The Patriots went on to score 27 points in the second half scoring on every possession, which added to Smith’s frustration.

The Patriots are a team that finds a way to win in December, but both Brady and the team realizes that they have to get off to better starts. As good as they are at adjustments, spotting a team a lead like they have in the last three games will eventually come back to hurt them.

The victory of the Texas was the Patriots eighth straight win in the month of December and as Brady puts it, “we’re playing at a much higher level than September.”

You can’t do that without the ability to make in-game adjustments.
